Bright -
Ray Kurzweil, author and futurist, a statistician of scientific models and
things that change our world; Ray was one of the first genius authors to
note the power of organized programming in Wired magazine so many
years ago. He founded successful companies and designed immense
and powerful software applications (Read his Bio here)- he believes
that the future is going to be largely controlled by technology - and in
an interview he put it this way:
Not So Bright -
Some futurists tend to run on the bleak side believing
that the motives which spur on research and improvement also tend
to support our more base motives. The result they believe in says
that survival of the fittest is going to put mankind into an untenable
position from which we may never escape.
Apocalyptic - there is a type of person who believes that the future
is set down in stone, that there is going to be an enormous and
impossible to prevent Apocalyptic end. Some choose to believe
a Myan system which predicts world end in 2012- and the belief
naturally has attracted a good deal more attention since the movie
by that same name came out. There are, however some other
beliefs which also predict world end by this means. There may
be some sarcasm in this clip:
Unknowable - there is a branch of logic which deals with constructs
and results, measures and derivations, deductions based upon the
most reasonable of courses. The people who practice this art of
knowledge are sometimes said to be pessimistic or opptimistic-
or, as Dr. Taylor's father used to say when asked which he was:
"I'm aptimistic," he'd twinkle, "apt to feel this way one day and
apt to feel another way some other day."
Uncertain Rather Than Unknowable
- the category which is hardestto iron out doesn't believe in not knowing, they simply cannot be
definite about what they believe is being studied. In the mix of
all that is being known, they believe we cannot compile and
make sense of it, yet; so that to know the future from the present,
at present, is too enormous to be worthwhile, yet such studies
are being considered and undertaken. Here is one example of a
very complex niche which continues to expand- children of war:
Conclusion: This brief video has sought only to point out
that the future which is coming has many different ways of
being seen, and to perhaps, start you to considering what
you believe the future will be like. This report is opinion
neutral and provides no weight to any particular version
of any of the material contained herein, all is presented in
as neutral a fashion as possible as potential food for thought only.
